Since the beginning of my career in 1981, I have been involved in numerous committees to further Midwifery in the state of Texas. I have been the Organizer of many Midwifery Conferences to further the educational opportunities for midwives and trained many student/apprentice midwives who have gone on to be successful midwives. Some have private practices and some own and run birth centers. One of my former student/apprentices serves as the Education Coordinator for The Association of Texas Midwives Training Program.
I have also been involved in many legislative efforts to develop and promote laws that would make midwifery safe for Texas consumers.
I have also assisted in the organization of The Gathering, which is the annual conference that brings together licensed midwives and nurse midwives for the purpose of developing relationships and educational opportunities.
